Marty Markel for Kenda Kist Jewelry

We wanted to share with you the process of creating a custom ring with us.

Marty Markel, my husband and partner in Kenda Kist Jewelry is a skilled goldsmith with over 15 years of wax carving, hand fabrication, and stone setting experience.

On this particular job, we're using a prefab head and the customers stones .

Once a finger size has been determined, a wax blank is cut to size.

The next few steps include mapping out the placement of the side stones and determining the angles to be cut out for the center stone setting (head). Then the semi-bezels are created and we shape the shank (band) portion of the ring to blend it in with the other elements of the design.

Once the ring is cast, there are several stages of filing and cleanup before reaching this polished stage. The next phase is to draw wire in order to create the single prong element in this design. Then we're ready to solder the prongs and center head in place.

The ring is now ready for stone setting.

After the stones are set, the ring gets a final polish and is done and ready for delivery.
